Instructions
Boil the Pasta
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook the jumbo pasta shells until just al dente.
- Drain and set them aside to cool.
Cook the Marinara
- In a large skillet, heat a bit of olive oil over medium-high heat.
- Add the Italian sausage and cook until it's browned and no longer pink, breaking it apart with a spoon. Remove any excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the sausage and cook for about 2-3 minutes until the onion becomes translucent.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper.
- Simmer the sauce for about 10 minutes to let the flavors meld and thicken slightly. Remove it from heat.
Make the Filling
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, 1 cup of mozzarella cheese, ¼ cup of Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, and the egg.
- Mix well to create the stuffing mixture.
Assemble the Italian Sausage Stuffed Shells
- Grease a baking dish with olive oil cooking spray.
- Spread a thin layer of the sausage marinara sauce at the bottom of the dish.
- Carefully stuff each cooked pasta shell with the cheese mixture and arrange them in the prepared baking dish.
- Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the stuffed shells.
- Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of mozzarella cheese and any remaining Parmesan cheese on top of the shells.
Bake and Serve
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and continue baking for another 10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and slightly golden.
- Allow the dish to cool for a few minutes, then serve your Italian Sausage Stuffed Shells hot, garnished with additional fresh parsley if desired.
EQUIPMENT
Notes
- You can substitute Italian sausage with ground turkey if you prefer a milder taste.
- Use a piping bag to make it easier to stuff the shells.
